Aidan “Gomey” Gomez
I grew up in a Taekwondo school in the Queen City of North Carolina, where I earned my Third Degree Black Belt. That was where I first experienced community.
In 2020, the pandemic interrupted that community, but I was thrown into another one when I moved to Georgia to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design. At SCAD, I studied Film & Television and found myself always on set, surrounded by unbelievable talent, dedication, and love for the craft.
I fell head over heels for Martial Arts films (who would’ve thought?), but I rarely saw myself in those movies, and the action movies of modern day reflected a similar issue— There’s a severe lack of LGBTQ+ stories.
As a Queer filmmaker, I aim to bring a fresh lens to Martial Arts films and the Action genre. I hope to usher in a new era of action films that return to their roots— practical effects and bold stunts— while telling stories that are unique to my experience and ground films in a way that audiences can connect with, all with the goal of pushing the medium forward creatively.
After all, a film is only as strong as its characters and the story it tells. Action films can be much more than popcorn— they are most thrilling when the characters and stakes feel real.
My short film, Press Start, is only the beginning. Ask me about my Queer Action Romance feature film...
